Projects
Our key pilot project focuses on clean cooking and reforestation in Madagascar:
Today in Madagascar, as in most sub-Saharan African countries, the vast majority of the population still relies on wood and charcoal for cooking. This has a devastating effect deforestation, desertification and climate change. In addition, the toxic smokes emitted by the combustion of wood and charcoal causes pulmonary diseases and induces thousands of death casualties every year. Last but not least, traditional biomass cooking methods are extremely inefficient and keep women and girls busy in the kitchens for long hours everyday, preventing them to pursue more rewarding education and economic activities. The clean cooking and reforestation program, in cooperation with the Governments of Madagascar and the United Nations, with contribute to disseminating clean cooking technologies and methods to promote the protection of the environment, good health, and gender equality.
